The main difference between Boston Fern and Kimberly Queen Fern is that Boston Fern has softer leaflets and more flexible fronds, which makes it look fluffier, but it is also much messier. Kimberly Queen Fern has a sharper silhouette due to stiffer fronds, in addition, it is smaller in size and slightly darker.
Native to Australia, the Kimberly queen (Nephrolepis obliterate) was trademarked there by Westland Laboratories Ply Ltd. In the United States, the name has been misspelled so many times that the fern goes by the spelling ‘Kimberly’ when in fact the trademark spelling is ‘Kimberely.
Kimberly queen fern has several advantages over the Boston fern. The Kimberly queen fern tolerates sun much better than the Boston and grows much more prodigiously. It also thrives as an indoor houseplant or indoors to over winter
